KEITH’S KULL
This is the first opportunity I have had since the announcing of our merger to write an article for the “Northwest News”, therefore, I have so much to say that I’m not quite sure where to begin. There is no doubt that our merging has produced a mixture of excitement and anxiety in my own personal life. The anxiety comes from the newness and unknown aspects associated with the merger. I have illustrated this at Market Avenue by telling them about the time I went to get a damp rag to wipe off a table after one of the Food Assistance Distributions and suddenly realized that I had no idea where to find a damp rag. Don’t fret, I figured it out and this is how other things will take place as well – we’ll figure them out. The excitement comes from the awareness that there is going to be so much opportunity to continue doing God’s will. Canton is a fertile field for the gospel seed. We simply need to get out and plant it. That’s the goal of this merger – to work together in the sharing of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I’ve heard some express the concern that here will not be anything for them to do once we come together. Nothing could be further from the truth. Paul was discussing the different gifts that God had given to the members of the church in Rome. He made these comments:
“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them; if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching,; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.”
Roman 12: 4-8
Paul’s point is that we have all been blessed by God with talents we can use for the overall good of the congregation. Our responsibility is to use them. As we do God’s will is done, the gospel is shared, we are edified and we enjoy growth.
There are two specific things I want to speak to you about today. First is the Senior’s Ministry. We are in the process of blending the two ministries from Market and 38th Street together. We have enjoy several meetings together, and at our last meeting forms were distributed allowing the folks to share their ideas on what we need to do in regard to the day of the week we meet, how often we meet and what we will call ourselves. No final decisions have been made yet, but for the present we will continue to meet at the Market campus on Tuesday of each week. A full calendar of events is scheduled through September including Bible Studies and prepared meals, and short trips to area restaurants. The highlight will be what we call our “Golden Ager Banquet” which is planned for Friday evening, August 14, at the Market Avenue building. Lance will be doing the speaking, entertainment will be provided and the meal will be great. Activities will take place between 6 and 9 PM.
Second, is Vacation Bible School. At the beginning of this year we scheduled to have a VBS at Market. We are going to follow through with our plans and we invite everyone join with us. VBS will be held on Sunday and Monday, August 9-10. Our theme is “Discovering the Nature of God”. All activities on Sunday will take place at the Market campus from 11:30 – 7:00 PM, and is for preschoolers through 6th grade. Lunch and dinner will be provided. At 7:00 PM those in grades 1-6 are invited to go to the Hartland Retreat in East Sparta for a cookout and overnight, with the remainder of VBS taking place on Monday at Hartland. All meals that day will be provided. We will return to the Market Avenue campus at 8:00 PM. Information and registration cards are available on the bulletin boards at both campuses. This will be a great opportunity for our children to meet and get to know one another. We also have plenty of opportunities for anyone who would like to help. A meeting for all workers is scheduled for August 2 at the Market Avenue campus at 4:00 PM.

I have neglected them the past few years, but I want them to know that I love them with all my heart and I have missed them so much. I pray that they will forgive me for my distance due to the circumstances that was happening in my life. I am so thankful to God that we can be together again as one family.
