LIFE LINES

Greetings to everyone, and welcome to the services of the Lord’s church here on 38th Street.  To both our spiritual family members and guests we extend the hand of fellowship and greeting, and trust that at the Northwest Church of Christ you will find the truth of God’s word taught in a loving way.
As we move forward with the merging of the former Market Avenue and 38th Street churches, there are many details to be worked out, and much that requires attention.  Each step we take toward full unity is important, and must be accompanied by an attitude of love and a spirit of peace and cooperation.  This past week, some of our senior members joined with the former “Golden Agers” group from Market Avenue to enjoy a meal together and a ride on the canal boat that operates at Canal Fulton.  This next Tuesday (July 7th), we will get together again to go to Hartville for lunch at the Frontier Restaurant.  These times of fellowship are wonderful ways to get to know one another and to blend the former 38th Street “Young-In-Heart” with the Market Avenue group.
For the month of July, meetings will be at the Market Avenue building and excursions will start from that location as well.  On two days we will stay at that building for Bible study and a prepared meal (July 14th and 28th).  On the 21st a trip is scheduled to the Dutch Valley Restaurant, at Sugarcreek, Ohio.  The time of this trip will be announced, but all other Tuesdays we will begin at 10:30 A.M.  There are sign up sheets on the east-wing bulletin board for Senior activities.
Keith Kull will have the primary responsibility for the seniors’ ministry, now and when it moves to the 38th Street building.  Others are active in planning trips, especially Wilda McCullough, and preparing meals.
As for a name for this new united group, that will be discussed at upcoming meetings.  Suggestions from our senior members are most welcome.  Let Keith, or me, know your thoughts on this.
Our older members lead in so many ways, and have devoted lifetimes to serving God as a part of the church.  We value their knowledge and experience and want them to know they are a vital part of the Lord’s body.  Through the study and fellowship of these meetings together, they fulfill the promise of Paul’s words in II Corinthians 4:16:  “Therefore we do not lose heartEven though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”
We invite all of our senior members to take advantage of the opportunities these meetings provide for spiritual growth and for keeping “. . . the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.  (Ephesians 4:3).

CHANGES
Computers, cell phones, Wi-Fi, touch screens, GPS, Smart cars, the web and e-mail, oh my!  There are so many new things in recent years and so many changes in the way we interact with one another and do our business.
Certainly times have changed, technology continues its forward momentum, time saving devices and tools abound and there are so many gadgets to see and use, it is certainly an interesting time to live.  Advances in technology can make life easier, and certainly these new things can add productivity to our days.  It is amazing to me that I can go “on-line” and find research information from some of the world’s finest libraries and be allowed access to works by some of the greatest scholars, all at my fingertips. It is amazing to me that I can call or be called from anywhere I happen to be, with a device that weighs only ounces, and see my appointments or listen to music with that same device.  We truly live in an amazing time.
I am thankful for the changes that have come, for the gadgetry that has been developed in my lifetime, and I count these as blessings that allow me to stay in touch, be more productive and gain information.  However, I am even more grateful for what has not changed!
I am more grateful for a loving God who knows me and my needs and who watches over me.
I am more thankful for a Savior that redeemed me from every lawless deed and whose blood continually cleanses me and makes me acceptable before God.
I am more thankful for the Spirit that guides and intercedes on my behalf.
I am more grateful for God’s word, inerrant, infallible and inspired, that guides me and tells me how to please the Creator of the universe.
And I am more thankful for the church that was purchased at Calvary, established on Pentecost and remains to this day.
None of these things can be improved upon.  None of them will change, although the world around me certainly continues to do so.
