Lads to Leaders Requirements for 2008 - 2009

Lads to Leaders and Leaderette's Meeting
May 4, 2008

Attending: Kenleigh Ash, Sonya Ash, Dorothy Seifert, Ethan Ash, Joan Cook, Nicole Cook, Frank Kruger Jr., Terri Shrake, Andy Shrake, Josh Moss, Matt Moser, Jane Moser, Steve Moser, Tom Walton, Richard Dimit, Earl Ash, Heather Lindenberger, Stephen Lindenberger, Eugene Fox, Kathy McMichael, Alex McMichael, Mark Daverio, Amanda McMichael, Bobby McMichael, Brian Heid, Jon Heid, Diane Gardiner, Harry Rose.

Welcome and Introduction by Earl Ash.

Earl mentioned the "Dates to Remember" sheet is being finalized and when updated will be mailed to every home as well as posted along side of the L2L board.

Earl shared ideas for changes to schedules that have been submitted and approved for next year.

These changes are:

1) Songs of Praise and Song Leading will be moved to after PM services on Sunday nights. It was determined that if the students are doing the work as they should a quick "run through" with the coordinator should be all that is needed.

2) During the PM song practices each moth we will take a few ladies out for a few minutes at the end and have the girls give their speeches and lead their songs.

3) Boys will be scheduled to do their speeches and lead songs on Wednesday evenings during the invitation time. There will not be any "split services" for L2L scheduled for 2009.

Earl then turned things over to Richard Dimit for the Elders presentation. Handouts of the changes were distributed during Dick's presentation. (Links are provided below.)

"Know the Books" rules were distributed.

Activity sign up forms were distributed.

At the conclusion of his remarks it was announced that Stephen Lindenberger will be the Co-coordinator for L2L for 2008-2009 with the plan of taking over the ministry after the 2009 convention.

Question and answer session followed.

Questions about the best way to handle K-2. It was suggested that perhaps K could do "Know the Books" and 1 other thing, and that 1st graders could do "Know the Books" and 2 things or some such arrangement. The group will meet and clarify.

Also some concerns about Puppet schedules and "last minute changes" were brought up, as well as scheduling concerns. Steve Moser, Jane Moser and Earl Ash will discuss and develop a workable plan.

General discussion followed and everyone seems to agree that some "tweaking" was needed and the steps taken are appropriate and not burdensome.

We will primarily focus on the Edification of our youth in the following core areas:

1) Bible Reading (including Parade of Winners)

2) Song Leading or Songs of Praise

3) Speech

4) Debate

5) Bible Bowl including testing and competing

6) Centurion of Scripture

7) Basic knowledge of the Bible

Every student who wishes to attend the Convention in 2009 must complete "Know the Books" at the Bronze level by the January registration deadline. No exceptions.

Secondarily we will focus on Evangelism, Benevolence and Support of the church and others through the "Good Samaritan" portion of L2L.

The rules now are:

1) Students are expected at every class or practice for which they sign up to participate. Students must have all required supplies to be counted as present. If a student arrives without the necessary supplies they will not be allowed to participate and will be counted absent.

2) Students are to contact the coordinator, well prior to the class or event if they will be unable to attend. (Golden Rule)

3) Two unexcused absences (no calls are included) will be considered notification that the student is no longer interested in participating in Lads to Leaders and they will be dropped from the rosters and registrations. Again, showing up unprepared is considered an absence.

4) Students who do not wish to complete, and document, three or more of the following: "Know the Books" which is mandatory for 2009, Parade of Winners, Speech, Debate, Bible Reading, Song Leading, Songs of Praise, Centurion of Scripture, Bible Bowl or Good Samaritan (at the Silver level or above) will become responsible for all of their Convention expenses. (Rooms, registrations and travel.)

These expenses will be pre-paid, in full, before they will be registered.

"Puppet Theater" will be used as a recruiting tool for the youth of the congregation. Involvement in Puppet Theater is contingent upon completion of three or more of the core areas.

5) No one will be registered for Convention without appropriate forms and documentation turned in by the required dates, no exceptions.
